Various Locations | Chicago, IL
Early on during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Korean Performing Arts Institute sought to adopt online programming to continue its artistic activities, even during a time when people could not gather. Its first major online production, Samulnori in Chicago is a full-length program featuring the main canonical repertory of Samulnori, a neo-traditional genre of Korean percussion music: Binari, Seoljanggu, Samulnori, and Pangut. Filmed across various iconic locations across the Chicago area and performed by its full-time team of Artists in Residence, the concert is a testament to KPAC’s unwavering authenticity and artistry in the face of an ever-changing global landscape. In addition to his virtuosity on the janggu in Seoljanggu and Samulnori, Chansoo Lee also demonstrates his vocal skills in Binari and his acrobatic sogo performance in Pangut.
